am I bad for doing that? I canceled his party, presents...even cake...
Seth will be 11 this weekend....has been horrible with homework! He doesn't do it. I ask and he looks at me and says yes. He was given a study hall and said time and time again that he completed his homework there.
When I found out this was NOT the case ( during the IST mtg) I brought him in to explain. He said and I quote
" Basically I am lazy."
Seth has Asbergergers and is given time and a half to accomplish his work....he, I think, has learn or is learning to ....cheat. no...not the right word...work the system.
I got on his case hard! He is a really good worker and helps me all the time. I put him in "slave labor" for his laziness. (I also asked the IST group why I wasn't emailed when it was clear he wasn't bringing home the notes from the teacher).
He was doing great ...or so I thought until yesterday. We even had a check off list.
I got a phone call from him yesterday. He had to call me from his classroom in front of his teacher. He had been lying to me again. I EVEN CALLED HOME FROM WORK AND ASKED HIM IF IT WAS DONE.
So I did it.
I took all his toys away- even his DS and canceled his party.
Called everyone and told them my son had told a big lie deliberately and he would NOT be having a party...
This is the right thing to do right? Gosh I hate parenting. I hate lying more.

Ok... remember... I am not now, nor never have been a parent but here is my 2 cents...Yes... that is quite harsh, but I believe you were right to do it. As my parents told me, you have to do something to get his attention. Hopefully he'll snap out of it and come around. Good luck!
Yes, it was a tough punishment, but one that he earned. He is learning how to get away with stuff and is very good at it, he needed something to show how serious you are. Parenting is so hard! but you are doing a great job!
You did good. I think as long as he is reminded (and I'm sure he is) that his own choices brought this consequence- and that the loss of things are not because mom and dad are hurt/angry then he'll get the message. Hopefully sooner than later.
