Last Saturday the kids were playing a ball game in my Parlor. It was a beautiful day so I sent them outside to play.
Remind me never to that again!
The kids made up a game...kinda like Monkey in the Middle Meets Dodge Ball. While Seth was swatting the ball away he tripped and landed straight on his elbow.
So starts the over 7 hour ordeal.
We tried .....really we did.... to avoid the ER. OMGosh there is no way we can stand for socialized medicine.
ANYWAYS after xrays and 3 hours, it was determined that indeed it was broken. Then came the circus.
Nurse # 1 says well you need surgery that is how we fix that kind of break.
Resident #1 came in and asked AGAIN how it happened . Says No Doesn't look like Surgery is needed, but he is the JR Resident so he had to ask his Sr Resident
Resident #2 SR Resident comes in asks how this happened and says No he doesn't think surgery, but needs to check with the head doctor on call. But he is in surgery. So we wait.
and wait.........
Then another Doctor (resident? IDK some one in green scrubs - could be transportation for all I know) asks Seth how this happened- to which Seth replies "don't ask me again."
The gentleman says he is making follow up surgery plans with pedritrican .
It was determined that a splint- sawed open for swelling would do until we could get to the Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon
Today we went and met the very nice Dr. and his crew and here are the details and pictures to boot.
Cutting off the old splint. The saw made Seth giggle and giggle because it tickled.
Getting his new gortex RED cast
I loved this Tech and how he explained that the cast is made out of fiber glass just like race cars. He may never know how much that calmed Seth and made a cast seem soooooooooo cool
We found out that the break is all the way through the elbow.
We go back in two weeks to see:
A) If he can have the cast off and start physical therapy.
B) If he needs to re align the elbow and get a new cast.
C) To see if the elbow is not healing correctly if it needs to be re broken and operated on.
We pick A.

so no surgery?
And what an awesome tech, knowing just what to say to a nervous boy. Race cars + red cast = super fast awesome boy! ;)
Sorry for Seth, but a great post!
We love Broken armed little men. Tommy did the same thing and there was talk of surgery also. But he was able to avoid that too. He had the coolest blue cast that was water proof. So his summer was not totally spoiled. Where were waterproofs casts when I was a kid?
