"...Why Seek Ye

the living among the dead?
6 He is not here, but is risen...." Luke 24:5-6.

In January 1992 my Mom died. It changed my personality for yrs. Other than Scott, my Mom was my best friend...confidant.
We moved back from UT to be with her in her last days. When she died, I was a month away from giving birth to my first child.

I was mad and sad. Some of her last words...if not the last words she said to me were that she wanted to hold my son's fuzzy head under her chin. I had to lie and tell her it was ok to die and not to suffer anymore. It wasn't ok.

One day very heavy with child( remember Alex was born @10# 3 oz and 24 inches)I went to her grave and stood there in the snow alone crying and screaming to God for taking her when I needed my Mom. What was a freakin' month in the eternities?

Then came the simple thought to my mind as clear as the blue skies above and as pure as the snow below
", Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is arisen........"

Simple peace given from a loving God.

I went into labor and Alex was born. Later, the nurses came in and told me it had been the most "spiritual birth they had ever attended." Scott and I just looked at each other...adrenalin-filled new novice parents.

That scripture took on another meaning when it came into my head again and again over the yrs with Alex.

The one I remember most is when I was interpreting at the high school and was shocked at what was going on in the hallways and classrooms. Seriously, in my day....anyways let's just say it was dark. Kids kept their heads down -with the exception of a few here and there-and walked like cattle. Girls skadily dressed, swearing like a sailor all around...etc. I started looking for Alex.

" Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen...."

Then down the hall towering above all the rest was Alex.....smiling and friendly. A light to the spiritually dead who do not remember who they are. Physically and spiritually risen above the rest.

Now Alex is off to college and I hope that he continues to rise above to the challenges the world but more importantly to rise TO the challenges Heavenly Father has in store for him.
