Our First Accident

There are a few times in you life where you heart literally stops....not skips a beat....stops.

Andrew's teachers have taught him my cell phone number in case of an emergency. He uses it all the time.
If I am upstairs and he isn't....he calls.
When I am at work, he calls he gives me the blow by blow several times during the night.
Last night:
Call # 1 Hannah was being mean.
Call # 2 He needed to talk to a grown up or Dad.
Call # 3 Never mind he found Dad.
Call # 4 He couldn't talk to Dad because he had to go and get Alex. Alex "had total the car in a ditch."

My son in a ditch.

beating stopped.

Alex is ok.

Alex is a very good driver...he really is,

that is why they call them accidents

I think it is interesting that Alex and Ben were playing "crash" and then....

So Here is what happened. A skunk ran across the road and Alex swerved to miss it.He ended up in a ditch.

The car was not totaled , here is one view. The drivers door will not open but the pictures don't do it justice.

I am sad that we are our of a second car for awhile, but metal and cars can be fixed or replaced. I am ELATED Alex is ok,

and my heart can beat again

Glad he's ok. You're absolutely right... the car can be repaired much easier than Alex can!

I've run over a few animals in my time. Call me heartless, but making any effort to avoid a small animal that I know won't cause damage to my car isn't worth the effort (or danger) to me.

Having said that, I was driving home from a small-town airport last night when I rounded a bend and my lights shown upon some glossy-eyed little critter. As I got closer, I realized it was... a skunk!

Nightmarish thoughts ran through my head of the horrible smell that would be plastered all over my car should I hit this animal.

If there is any small beastie worth swerving to avoid, it is definitely a skunk.

My heart always takes a jump any time I get an unexpected call. Glad to hear all is well. I, too, am not looking forward to handing keys over to the kids.

Maybe I don't want Zach to get his license (he's still working on it.) I don't worry about my hubby driving, but when it's one of my kids... I'm so glad things are fine.
