What is going on!?! I hear about this more and more everyday. Now I have two, possibly three children with food allergies. For us it seems to be with Cow's milk.
If I had been smarted as a young mother, and knew anything about food allergies, I guess I would have seen thatAlex was having a slight problem with milk. A few summers ago he had a bad reaction and he has been able to take the pills to help. That is no longer the case, and has to avoid Cow's milk products.
Seth has issues with it too.
Now Benjamin. I know it was coming because every time I ate anything with cow dairy in it,he would projectile vomit after we nursed. He never would take any formula and we use goats milk as a supplement.
I couldn't wait until he turned 1 to introduce him to cow's milk, it's cheaper and more readily available. Nope. We slowly introduced it, and even the tiniest amount made a HUGE problem. It's the way his body digests- or doesn't digest the cow protien.
My doctor recommends goat's milk, the doctor on call recommended soy milk or rice milk.
I am afraid of soy. I am.
I was at a friend's house a few summers ago ( maybe last summer) and my PCP happened to be there. I am not sure exactly what she said, but I can remember she mentioned about the estrogen in soy. I guess I need to talk with her more about it and ask her to clarify.
Ben likes goats milk and soy if it is vanilla. I haven't tried rice yet, but will today.
No one else will drink any of it....unless it is masked major with chocolate.
I guess I need to do more research. I hear so many different sides.
Any comments?

I have heard so many different sides as well, I finally decided that I would just have to do what I could, feed them what they would drink. M was on soy milk for 2 years and LittleMan was allergic to it, so he was on rice milk for 3 years.
30-50% of children allergic to cows milk will also be allergic to soy, so I'd watch for that.
Also, it seems that if you avoid cows milk completely (a huge pain at first) the more likely they are to outgrow it, so that's what we did and it seems to have worked, for now anyway :).
Oh and I hate those spam things too, very frustrating.
My kids took the soy. They did not have milk allergies, but Dr. B recomended soy to start. Not sure what it does, but no early signs with my kids.
