A while ago. I was at the grocery store waiting in line to get Alex some medicine. He was sure he was dying of a sinus infection. I was given orders to hurry as fast as I could. Well now in NYS- maybe else where too, you can not just go buy certain meds. Things like sudifed etc ,are behind the pharmacy counter and you have to fill out paperwork and show a picture ID.
Sooo I am waiting in line for prescribtions and stuff. There is this antsy man behind me, obviously in more of a hurry than I.
I turn and tell him he can go ahead of me (his wiggles were driving me crazy).
He starts thanking me and talking.
All I hear is "wife, son, blah blah blah."
Right before he goes up to the counter he asks if I have any kids and I mention 7. I noticed he had a uniform on and that he got 27 prescriptions( so much for HIPA).
He approaches me in the parking lot and tells me his job is to take the day old goods from 3 local grocery stores and bring the stuff to shelters and group homes. Ok.
He asks me if he can bring me food. Hmmmmm. I am leery of a guy who wants my phone number and address -offering me food from a back of a van. I gave him Scott's cell#. Scott checked it out.
We have been getting a insane amount of free food ever since. He only gives us a tip of what he has and we are grateful. There are several ( I think it is up to 7) families we share it with and of course the RS President get first call.
Just to give you an idea, after I had given away everything people wanted, I canned:
18 quarts of strawberry jam, 18 pts too.
7 qrts green beans
9 qrts applesauce
7 qrts corn
14 qrts peaches, 5pnts too
I still have grapes I have juiced That I need to make into jam and respberries too.
8 qrts spaghetti sauce
12 pnts salsa
22 loaves of banana bread
froze 6 gallons of broccoli
3 gal bags of cauliflower
2 gall peas
His name is John , he from the country Greece, hard worker and he is retired. I made the mistake of sharing the things I canned with him. I can tell if he likes it, because he is sure to give me more of that particular item. I am now helping him with his genealogy.
